Meet the Host
Rev. Berniece R. Hicks
Christ Gospel was founded over 50 years ago by Rev. Berniece R. Hicks, who had no ambitions or plans for ministry, but had a gift for studying, understanding, and explaining the Bible.
Rev. Hicks wrote and published over 110 books, which include studies on the Old Testament Tabernacle, the Threefold Nature of Man, evolution and creation, overcoming depression, and many spiritual exegeses of various books of the Bible. The church holds a copyright license to these materials, and Rev.Hicks receives no royalties from them.
Rev. Hicks passed at age of 99, It was only a few years before that she would still preach an average of two services at the Jeffersonville church, she continued to write Christian training materials, answers dozens of letters, and oversees a world-wide ministry.
About Christ Gospel Churches
Our church was originally founded in the 1950s. At the time, Rev. Hicks did not segregate her church according to race. All were welcome to come and fellowship in Christ’s name. This combined with the fact that the founder was a woman was perceived as controversial for many years. But Rev. Hicks remained undeterred from preaching the gospel to people of all races, colors and creeds. The church has grown from a small Bible study to a large church with nearly 2,000 members in Jeffersonville Indiana (which is the international headquarters), with hundreds of affiliated churches around the world.
Our church integrates a number of musical styles as well. You will hear classical hymns, Christian songs in a “country music” style, traditional black gospel, and even opera on occasion. We believe that our diversity of music is a strength as we lift up God’s name.
